RFC trace files are written on the desktop or into another directory but not the SapWorkDir.

Reason and Prerequisites
The librfc32.dll did not provide functionality to set the trace directory.
Solution
GUI patches are supplied on the SAP Service Marketplace in the GUI 7.10, 6.40 and 6.20 directories.
