In non-Unicode SAP system user enters text which contains multibyte characters. Since the length of input fields is usually limited to a certain number of bytes, if a user types multibyte characters, it is possible that some multibyte characters at the end of a string will be truncated and thus corrupted.

If a (character-like) structure is stored in a simple field of ABAP type C (or STRING) and this field is transported from a non-Unicode system to a Unicode system or vice versa and the data contain full-width (East Asian) characters, the alignment of the structure is not correctly preserved.
