CVERS/SLUtil NullPointerException in TableDescriptionFactory

Symptom

The following error appears in an SDM log file:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.sap.sl.util.cvers.impl.TableDescriptionFactory.getTableDescription(TableDescriptionFactory.java:73)

Reason and Prerequisites

This error may occur with an Oracle database with Service Pack 11 to 14.
Solution

Implement Note 884678.
