Basis Errors and Solutions

Symptom

You want to make changes in the Security Provider service in the Visual Administrator, but you see error messages such as “Unable to update authentication stack for the selected configuration” or “Unable to modify the authentication stack”. When you click on the status bar you see the following exception:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.util.Hashtable$1.contains(Hashtable.java:401)
at java.util.Collections$SynchronizedCollection.contains(Collections.java:1557)
at java.util.Collections$UnmodifiableMap$UnmodifiableEntrySet.contains(Collections.java:1385)
at java.util.Hashtable.equals(Hashtable.java:435)

Reason and Prerequisites

This is a bug in the IBM JDK.
Solution

This bug has been fixed in IBM JDK J9 SR12 and above. If your JDK is older, upgrade it according to the instructions in Note 716927.
